Fuck you, I’m jealous.

I am feeling super behind this season. Having only skiied 8 days thus far is extremely different from last year. I reached 32 days by the end of the season, I do not think I will be achieving that at this rate. At least the snow out west has been “mediocre” this year so I am not missing so much. Its all amazing to me though since I am used to Vermont ice, rocks, and grass.

Snowbasin, Sun Valley, Alta, and Snowbird skiied so far. Hoping to still hit Jackson Hole, Mammoth, and Squaw Valley this season if I can find the time. Revelstoke is still on my dream list but I doubt I will find the time.

My Mountain Collective Pass is already down to $50 a day though so its successful either way. Ideally it will get down to $25 a day by the end which is a far cry from my sub $10 last season but these are arguably far better mountains anyways.

A day spent skiing is better than a day at work. Was going to blow off the day and go yesterday, but apparently freezing rain at 15°F overnight is a thing. The 20ish and light mist in the morning was enough to finish off any thoughts of taking the day off.

It’s nice to see the PNW finally get some snow. Enjoy.

I recommend heli-skiing in Sun Valley. It’s an event you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Actually... Just go hang out in Sun Valley for a week.

I’m lucky to get anywhere near that many times most seasons. But this is number 5 so far this winter. Snow has been... lackluster.

I hear you! I’m heading home now, it’s getting windy, snowing, and form to 15 degrees. But it was fun!

The dragon takes me to the top. Kind of like heli-skiing. Worth it.

Back when I lived in Switzerland I’d snowboard twice a week.

We actually got to visit the Gstaad glaciar and Les Diablerettes

Shamefully I was too young for any significant Apres Ski parties.

Sun Valley Idaho

It’s a confusing concept seemingly at odds with basic geography, but having spent time in both Idaho and Sun Valley I can in fact confirm that they share nothing.

Sun Valley is all the bad parts of Idaho without any of the good parts. Just like Austin.

You’re crazy! Sun Valley is a heavenly wonderland where every waking moment is a joyous occasion filled with supreme happiness.

Minus the whole “everything is super expensive” thing

I definitely want to go back next year, it was a really awesome mountain. Way better than I expected. And flying into Boise was pretty easy. If only I didn’t get stranded there though when my flight got canceled lol

Alta was pretty darn good. Even before it snowed while I was there, it was truly magical. But the day it snowed I was just in paradise. Best skiing of my life for sure. I was sad to leave.

Bring apres ski to north america!

Also... if you like off piste you really need to go to Europe because the Nanny State here in North America would never let you off piste as crazy as the euros go. I’ve seen things man, it’s crazy... Back when I was a beginner our snowboarding instructor took us to off piste two weeks in; it was a meter deep in powder and I genuinely thought we would end up causing some sort of avalanche.

If you ought to go to europe, you could go straight to Graz and see some G wagons and some Unimogs before skiing in the Austrian mountains. I remember going to the transport museum in Switzerland and it’s fucking amazing too!

Generally Germany is not a great place to ski unless you put yourself againts the Swiss or Austrian border, so I wouldn’t go to Germany if I were you... Gstaad is also turning a bit into Vail so I wouldn’t go there much either (sure, the park is fantastic, but otherwise you might as well go to Colorado) I think that if you go to Chambery its pretty nice (although I’ve never been there myself)

As far as North America goes the best place I’ve gone for out right just skiing all fucking day is Jackson Hole, Wyoming, its also so relatively small that you could probably get a mountain guide to take you around the off pistes quite nicely!

but hotels get pretty steep there during the high season!

Off piste depends on where you go. Here on Hood everyone does it. Between trees, hiking way outside of borders, split boarding even further out of borders. A bunch of people here climb and have mountaineering experience themselves. It’s just the culture of the PNW.

I definitely will make it to Europe at some point. More than once. I’ll check out a bunch of different places. Unfortunately it probably won’t be very soon.

Sadly, when I lived in Wyoming I never made it to Jackson hole, since I was broke as hell and lived on the opposite corner of the state.

But it’s all good, I’ve been to lots of fun places and will go to lots more. Awesome that you’ve been to so many all over!
